2007 Disney Spring Classic II Player Evaluations – Underclassmen

FloridaHoops.com’s second report from Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex focuses attention on the 16U and 15U age groups. I didn’t see as many of these teams as I did the 17U group but there were still more than enough quality players. It will be interesting to watch this current group of freshman and sophomores for the next couple of years to see just how much their skills grow and develop.

Brandon Bolts 16U

A.J. Garden – 2009 6’2 PG – Tampa Durant: It looks like he can do everything but shoot. This lefty has a strong body and can over-power most players his age. I really like that he is vocal on defense and plays hard all the time. Garden appears to be a solid defender and has good court vision. He scored in transition and hit a couple of floaters in the lane.

Joe Raga – 2009 6’5 WF – Tampa Newsome: This underrated performer did a lot of good things in the pool play game against the South Florida Heat. Raga has a nice mid-range game showing that he can put the ball on the deck and score at the basket or pull up from fifteen feet and hit contested shots. He is savvy, rebounds well, and backs down from no one.

Collum Townsend – 2009 6’5 WF – Bloomingdale Valrico: He first caught my attention when he nailed two triples in the opening minute of the game but then was nearly written off as your run-of-the-mill three point gunner when he did nothing else in the first half but clank his next 7 shots, all from behind the arc. In the second half, he realized he needed to do more and started hitting the offensive glass with great effectiveness and driving to the basket and drawing fouls. He knocked down his free throws and helped the team pull out the game.
