Over the course of the weekend, Bolts Coach Kevin Vegas was interviewed by former NBA star Dennis Scott on NewsTalk 1040 am WWBA. Later the team had lunch at the ESPN club where they were personally greeted by former Auburn University head football coach and college sports announcer, Terry Bowden. A follow-up story on the Bolts' weekend aired the following Monday on NewsTalk 1040 am WWBA.
On May 21 - 23, the team competed in the local USSSA Tournament of Champions and again placed 2nd by defeating the Temple Terrace Titans and the Tallahasse Eagles. This ranking earned the team an invitation to the USSSA State Tournament in Gainesville, FL. The team chose to forgo the USSSA State tournament in favor of the AAU National tournament in Tennessee.
The Bolts are the only team in the Tampa area that will compete at AAU Nationals. Our team is actively raising funds and soliciting sponsors to assist with travel and lodging expenses for the team of 14 players and 2 coaches.
