Walter Perkins and Mike Fugate started the Brandon Bolts in the winter of 1999. Walter and Mike had coached together at the YMCA and HCPRD for many successful seasons during which time they had the privilege to coach many talented kids. Their love of basketball and coaching, coupled with the desire to provide Brandon youth with the opportunity to develop and improve their game, prompted Walter and Mike to form the Bolts. Walter's wife, Felicia, chose the name "Bolts" as a symbol of strength, speed and power. Originally, the Bolts were intended to be comprised of only one team, but the enthusiasm and interest in the community warranted the addition of several more teams before the Bolts' inaugural season even kicked off. In only its second season, the Bolts organization has grown to nine teams, ranging from "11 and under" to "16 and under" and including two girls teams.
